Yun  Hee Lee (Lee Yun Hee)

Lee Yun Hee is a famous Korean ceramist. She has a bachelors degree in ceramics and a masters degree. She has been apart of 60+ group exhibitions since 2006 and has had 6+ solo exhibitions. Since then, she has received 11 major ceramics  awards. Lee Yun Hee is still in her twenties, and though she is extremely young, she has developed an entirely unique style.

My Favorite Piece:

This piece is the most different of her pieces; it does not have a person in it and is not symmetric. This piece has very faint colors in the  part that appears to be almost like an alter. The places full of color are the top and the bottom. The bottom part is my very favorite because of the way the flowers and color scheme work together to bring it to life. Like all of Lee Yun Hee's pieces, this one is exquisitely constructed.

"Art by the Drums"
The artist whom I feel I relate to the most is Sharon Cummings. Sharon Cummings earned her degree from the University of Tampa. She worked under Dorothy Denham until Denham's death in 1999. Cummings continued to make art and specialize in abstracts, moderns, landscapes, and florals by request. Sharon Cummings still makes art and inspires many to this day. In her work, I see many of the same themes conveyed as in mine. Many of her modern paintings include whimsical recreations of animals, something I relate to completely. Other paintings by her express music, which is an inspiration for a multitude of my creations.

A. Description:  It looks like what she did was maybe sketch out the drums in pencil and then go back with a wet brush and create a pool of water where she wanted to put the watercolor. The painting combines warm and cool colors to create a silhouette of a drum set. Each of the warm and cool colors varies in value from the lightest to darkest shade of that color. While their is lots of negative space, the painting does not look unfinished.

B. Analysis: "Art by the Drums" is a painting/ watercolor piece that portrays an image of a drum set. Different parts of the drum are colored differently, and not even necessarily with too much meaning behind that. While the drums are depicted as a still life, through the vibrancies, you can almost imagine the noise that would be coming from the drums themselves. The use of such contrasting values, unique texture, and relationship between the focal point and background enrich this  picture.

C. Interpretation: The main theme of this painting is the concept of art in general. Art varies in many ways just as the values of color range in a multitude of ways. The art piece is not only art itself but is depicting another form of art: music. Music was easily a heavy influence on this picture not only for the subject, but also the style in which it was painted, using a combination of warm and cool colors and intense values portraying vibrancies and noise.

D. Judgement: Sharon Cummings "Art by the Drums" piece is my favorite piece by her. This piece is inspiring to me because of the simplicity. I like that each of the colors range in value and are not just either warm or cool, but both. I also love the fact that it is a painting of an instrument, mostly because music is an inspiration for so many or my pieces. However, I also like the subject because music in itself is its own form of art.

"MY THING/STYLE"
This quick sketch is a saxophone, but not entirely realistic, in fact, rather whimsical. All of my pieces are "rather whimsical." I like recreating subjects rather than emotions and many of these are inspired by animals and music. While animals and music are two entirely different things, they are two of my favorite things. In my eyes, they are both already a form of art themselves. I enjoyed creating this piece and allowing it to be imperfect and would like to continue making more pieces like this that combine multiple mediums and consist of lots of messy lines to create a clean picture.

"Crustacean Innovation"
Again, in this picture, I used several messy lines to construct a neater piece. The themes of each of my pieces are always inspired by either music or animals. In this piece, my subject was a crab. It is not entirely realistic, and in fact whimsical like the rest of pieces.

Dream Board
This piece shows a few of my visions for this year. The words read "hey there sunshine lift my heart," and have an illustration of a heart surrounded by the sun because one of my goals for this year is to radiate positivity and love, and be seen as a "ray of sunshine." A few more of my goals include staying organized, maintaining my current GPA, and getting accepted into GHP.
