The artist whom I feel I relate to the most is Sharon Cummings. Sharon Cummings earned her degree from the University of Tampa. She worked under Dorothy Denham until Denham's death in 1999. Cummings continued to make art and specialize in abstracts, moderns, landscapes, and florals by request. Sharon Cummings still makes art and inspires many to this day. In her work, I see many of the same themes conveyed as in mine. Many of her modern paintings include whimsical recreations of animals, something I relate to completely. Other paintings by her express music, which is an inspiration for a multitude of my creations.
Sharon Cummings "Art by the Drums" piece is my favorite piece by her. This piece is inspiring to me because of the simplicity. It looks like what she did was maybe sketch out the drums in pencil and then go back with a wet brush and create a pool of water where she wanted to put the watercolor. The painting combines warm and cool colors to create a silhouette of a drum set. I like that each of the colors range in value and are not just either warm or cool, but both. I also love the fact that it is a painting of an instrument, mostly because music is an inspiration for so many or my pieces. However, I also like the subject because music in itself is its own form of art.
